Daniel Pembroke

Gym Instructor

After a big shakeup in my life, I focused all my attention and drive into helping others achieve their fitness goals via personal training. With many years’ experience working with clients from diverse backgrounds and disciplines I feel very confident taking on new challenges and using my knowledge of the fitness industry to help others.

I’m easy going and sociable, my interests apart from exercise and sport include fishing, photography, gardening, playing guitar and travelling. Travelling has been a big part of my life. Recently returning from a 4 year round the world trip with my wife, we have shared many great times together exploring what the world has to offer.



My first introduction into fitness and sport was at the start of my teens where I took up athletics as a javelin thrower, I quickly progressed to be ranked number one in the UK and broke four GB records for my age. In the summer of 2012, I qualified for the London Olympics. In the same competition, I picked up a career shattering injury to my elbow which subsequently stopped me from competing in the Olympics and pursuing my sport.

Interests and specialisms

The aspects that I enjoy the most about fitness and exercise are seeing, feeling and living the rewards that it gives you, exercise frees up the world around you and lets you physically and mentally cope with life’s stresses. As a personal trainer, I would say my style of training is motivational, fun and enthusiastic. My specialities are functional training, weight loss and postural realignment.

Malcolm Jones

Gym Instructor

I have recently retrained and recommenced my career as an exercise professional. You will find me in my element on the gym floor, weather I am delivering a class, taking a client for PT or just mingling with the members. I’m a bit of an all-rounder but my specialities are in conditioning, body aesthetics, fat loss and core strength/stability.

I am a qualified level 3 Personal Trainer with 7 years previous experience in the leisure industry.

My interest in exercise and fitness started at a very young age. As a teenager I played many sports, mainly football and athletics. I was a Birch field Harrier, running middle distance. Then I got interested in weight lifting and I took a course in City and Guilds leisure and recreation. During this time a gained many other qualifications. The BAWLA Gym instructor and National Pool Lifeguard awards helped me to get a job with my local leisure services. Throughout the 90’s I took my fascination in bodybuilding to another level and entered a few competitions with national associations. After many, years working within both public and private facilities, I changed career and eventually became a social worker.

I am fascinated by the human body, its mechanics and functions, and therefore I have good knowledge of anatomy and physiology. I don’t just need to know what works but HOW and WHY it works.

I consider myself an ambassador for exercise as it not only improves lives but actually saves lives in more ways than you can imagine.

I am a big “foodie” and enjoy cooking. I love formula1 and motor racing in general, if it has an engine and goes fast it’s got my attention. I focus strongly on my own training and well-being. At the end of the day I’m quite happy relaxing watching a good crime drama.

Lin Leong

Hatha Yoga Instructor

Lin runs two classes a week for us currently. She is an extremely popular instructor who has taught Yoga for over 10 years. Lin holds an advanced Yoga Teaching diploma in Hatha Yoga.

 I love teaching all levels and abilities but I feel very passionate about introducing Yoga to people who have never done it before or who think that Yoga isn’t for them. Yoga is for every body! You will find my classes to be a friendly, supportive and safe space in which to practice Yoga. Classes are moderately paced with focus on breath and alignment. You will be encouraged to work at your level and to honour and be respectful of your body and your abilities. I provide variations and adaptations so that all practices are suitable for every individual. You will leave the class feeling calm, grounded and energised.



I am a Physiotherapist of more than 20 years, specialising in neurology. I weave my anatomy and health knowledge into my Yoga teaching. When not teaching or doing Yoga (or Physio) you will find me spending time with my husband and twin daughters, enjoying my new found love of running or staring at a starry sky.

Alison Mann

Vinyasa Flow and Kundalini Yoga Instructor

Alison is one of the truly excellent yoga instructors who deliver classes at the centre. She has been practising Yoga since her first of many trips to India back in 1992 and qualified as an instructor back in 2010. Having travelled quite intensively over the past 20 years Alison and her son settled here in Herefordshire 8 years ago.

For me, Yoga is a lifetime of learning, exploring & discovery. There is no end to what you can discover about yourself, and Yoga allows you to do that. I hear many a time that ‘oh I can’t do yoga I am not flexible’…Yoga is about the breath. If you can breathe, you can do yoga! Yoga is a practise of curiosity. So come and enjoy and relax into your body, mind and breath.

Being an Ayurvedic massage practitioner, Alison I can bring the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda into my Yoga teaching. As there is no Ayurveda without Yoga & no Yoga without Ayurveda. Ayur-means Life Veda-means Knowledge.

I hold my classes in a relaxed, warm, compassionate, friendly, held space. I am experienced with working with mixed ability groups There are no fancy movements. I want you to enjoy being in your body, and see how you can create space through gentle movement.

I work as a Freelance Yoga teacher and Ayurvedic massage practitioner in and around Herefordshire and London. I have worked as a yoga teacher and Ayurvedic massage practitioner at The Clover Mill in Worcester for the past 6yrs. Ayurveda is an ancient form of natural healing dating back 6,000yrs. It is a whole lifestyle package and is not complete without Yoga by its side. This ancient form of healing offers you so much to experience and learn about your body.


I first qualified as a Children’s Yoga instructor in 2004. Recognising then, how important it was for children of all ages to get to know and feel Yoga. Training with Yoga Bugs bringing yoga into stories of adventure. In 2010 I trained in Vinyasa Flow (350hrs certification) & in 2018 TeenYoga Level 3 Sports Coach and Kundalini Yoga (300hrs Certification)


When I am not working, I am out walking our dog around the glorious surroundings of Herefordshire, admiring the beauty, breathing in the fresh air. Feeling so blessed to live in such a stunning county. Spending time with my son, swimming, kayaking. cycling or just winding down with a book, good movie or friends.

Caz Jellard

Gym Volunteer

A busy mum Caz is also a committed and highly active volunteer at the GV Fitness Centre. Caz currently supports the gym instructors during busy periods and is learning all about how a gym operates with a view to training as a gym instructor.

I have a bubbly and enthusiastic nature and I consider myself a ‘people person’ and enjoy hearing their life stories and journeys. I feel I am a compassionate person and thrive on seeing and helping others develop and grow in achieving their goals.


I focus my interests in long-distance running, kettlebells and core work.
Cooking, food and nutrition is a huge part of my life and dedicating these aspects into a lifestyle choice. I have also started to work more on strength and conditioning since I have been fortunate enough to earn a place on the volunteer scheme.

Currently, I am very excited to be asked to develop and run the new running club here at GV Fitness and also to start my level 2 in Fitness.

In the future, I plan to take my level 3 in fitness in the hopes of becoming a Personal Trainer and specialising in nutrition.


My main hobby when I was young was horse riding and I progressed into Three Day Eventing and competed at an international level. During this time I maintained a keen interest in long-distance running and to date have completed over 20 half marathons and marathons.

Caroline Price

Volunteer Aerobics Instructor

Caroline is an experienced aerobics instructor who for many years ran her own successful fitness business ‘Bodymoves’. Living locally Caroline has been a big supporter of the GV Fitness Centre from day one and we are delighted that she was able to get involved as a volunteer and help us bring an aerobics programme to the centre.

I am very sociable and really like meeting new people. I love training and enjoying the great outdoors.

You might not realise it but I am a bit of adrenaline junkie! I met my husband John when I co-drove for him in the National Tarmac Rally Championship. John won the championship 12 times, 5 with me as his co-driver!

After a career with the MOD in Somerset, I relocated to Herefordshire to get married and start a family. With our daughter growing up, I was keen to get back to work so decided to make my passion for fitness into a business. I enrolled in an Exercise to Music NVQ course and after completion, my business ‘Bodymoves’ was started. Unfortunately, my husband’s ill health forced me to stop my business and I now work as a dispenser for a GP practice.

As soon as GV Fitness arrived on my doorstep I joined and have really enjoyed seeing it develop. When I was asked if I would be interested in helping deliver the aerobic classes, I couldn’t refuse!! It’s been great to be back doing something which I enjoyed doing for so long!


My fitness journey began with an aerobics class with my mum at the age of 18. This led to running, the gym and the recent addition of cycling.


I enjoyed running several different aerobic based classes to all ages and abilities for 8 years. Since I stopped running my own classes I’ve continued to keep up my exercise routine. It’s really great to be back teaching again now.

Esther Byford

Gym Volunteer

Esther has been one of our volunteers since the gym first opened. and has been enjoying learning all how the gym operates whilst providing valuable support to the instructor team running GV Fitness one evening a week.

Esther first joined a gym on the advice of a physiotherapist to help with backache and a nasty bout of sciatica and she hasn’t looked back. The backache has completely gone, no more sciatica and she is feeling fitter and happier. She loves attending fitness classes including boxercise, boxfit, barbell classes, pilates, aerobics and so on.


Although she loves attending all sorts of fitness classes, her passion is yoga. Esther loves the sense of wellness and relaxation that comes from a yoga class and the opportunity to gain flexibility and strength. With the help of the GV Fitness Centre volunteer programme, Esther hopes to train to be a yoga teacher.
