Developing the GV Fitness Centre has been a long and sometimes challenging journey for C.A.R.E. Reaching the point where we are now open to the community has required the belief, help, and support of so many people and partners.
This page details the many individuals and organisations both local and national to whom we owe our sincere thanks!
Once again we owe so much to the help and support of Herefordshire County Council who are not only our very accommodating landlord but who also provided a big part of the funding need to create the gym through their LEADER fund. Going forward we are really looking forward to working with them on a series of community-based projects that will help support the people of the Golden Valley and especially those who are at greatest risk.
The combination of funding, help, and support provided to C.A.R.E. through the Power to Change Bright Ideas Fund has been invaluable. Not only has this helped us ensure we can get the GV Fitness Centre off the ground, Power to Change via their partners the Plunkett Foundation have provided ongoing advice and support that will help ensure C.A.R.E. comes out of the project a far stronger and more effective organisation.
Through their small grants programme Sport England has added real value to the ongoing growth of the centre. Their funding has allowed us to recruit and support a number of fantastic volunteers, plus develop a range of projects that are launching in 2020 including new ladies running group, extra exercise sessions for the most vulnerable older people in the local community and activity programme for young people.
HeawardSports Ltd. is a specialist sport, leisure and community sector consultancy run by sport, leisure and community project expert Andrew Heaward. Since getting involved in early 2019, Andrew has played a key role in helping C.A.R.E. get this exciting new project off the ground and ensuring the best possible results. Andrew, the company’s MD remains actively involved in the project to this day providing ongoing management support for the centre. Staffordshire based Edenfield developed our fantastic new website. This was done both quickly and at a greatly reduced fee. Edenfield’s work ensured that the centre both benefits from a really professional digital identity and through an incredible level of integration with our gym management system and direct debit providers portal allows people access to sign up for membership, book classes and manage their membership from our website.
John Mainwaring of Marketing Bi Design is the all-round great guy and creative genius behind our image, signage and other marketing assets. As well as offering us a really competitive rate, John has pulled it out of the bag for C.A.R.E. time and again over the past few months, turning jobs around super fast and often doing things for free to help ensure we didn’t exceed our budgets!
Whilst Origin Fitness is a Scottish based company, their commitment to helping a small social enterprise create a new community fitness centre in rural South Herefordshire has been simply astonishing. From day one they have gone above and beyond the call of duty, offering incredibly valuable help and advice as well as a fantastic deal on all of our wonderful new equipment. Special thanks need to be given to Greg Walker Origin’s Sales Manager who has been there to help at every step of our journey.
Any conversion project creates a lot of mess and waste and ours was no exception. Thanks to Hereford based company, Quick-Skip, our waste was disposed of very efficiently and professionally at each stage of the project. They even offered us a great discount as a way of helping the community so it is only right that we thank them now.
Jon Pearce from TimberSpeck Services (Hereford) can quite rightly take credit for helping CARE take some of the very first steps in turning the dream of developing a community cafe/hub and Gym for the Golden Valley into reality. By preparing professional quality plan & drawings for both units 3 & 4 now the GV Café & GV Fitness Studio Jons work has enabled everything that has followed, along the way earning our sincere thanks!
Anthony Goodfellow of Harrison Clark Rickerby Solicitors played a key role over a significant period of time helping C.A.R.E. navigate the complex process of securing a lease and completing other legal agreements between the County Council and C.A.R.E. for our use of units 3 & 4. Without Anthony’s help and considerable patience this project would have never happened.
L F Air Conditioning made a big contribution to the comfort of our new gym by installing a fantastic air conditioning system to keep us warm in the winter and cool in the summer a perfect example of how a small gym can offer a big gym experience and quality.
Pomegranate Creative is a local printer based nearby in Mardy. Working closely with John from Marketing bi Design they have been responsible for doing a wonderful job of transforming our site with amazing new and really professional signage.
Window Wise of Hereford proved what an amazing firm they are when they stepped in at short notice to install a large glazed facia to Unit 3. This was done quickly, with no fuss and for a much cheaper price than our initial quote! You really earned our thanks!
Chris Cole Electrical has been a long term supporter of C.A.R.E. and our work to support the Golden Valleys most vulnerable residents. Once again we owe Chris a huge debt of gratitude. Not only has Chris and his team completed all of the electrical work for our new gym but Chris also helped us out with finding other suppliers who were able to get work done quickly to a great standard and critically do so at a price we could afford!
PJB Merchants Ltd is the building company responsible for much of the transformation of Unit 3 from a tired light industrial unit into a space that was could use as a gym. This was done incredibly quickly and efficiently despite their being busy with other jobs and this was all done for a discounted fee which meant we had funds available to create a really high-quality end product.
We suspect that painter and decorator extraordinaire Elaine Wheeler thought we had gone mad when we told her our new gym was going to be grey, dark green and bright orange. Instead, she ran with it and did a stellar job of turning an uninspiring industrial space into the exciting fresh gym we now have. She even managed to squeeze in tidying up the building’s external decoration and all for a very reasonable fee! Thanks Elaine!
Not only is Richard Lloyd our local plumber he has also become a really valuable part of our team. On so many occasions he has been happy to pop in, often at short notice and help us to complete any one of many small projects such as putting up our fantastic gym mirrors. Richard is a real supporter of CARE and defines for us exactly what being part of a village community is all about!
